SKS Shops
The SKS Shops was a HUGE success! Preliminary numbers are in excess of $25,000! I did some shopping myself and got a great baseball hat for the beach. Rebecca Roe ran with this with the help of many volunteers who pitched in. We are grateful to Rebecca for leading the way along with: Megan Hope, Kathleen Flanagan, Tara Flowers, Emily Murray, Maureen Vandergeest, Carolyn Carson, Bridget Hintze, Kristen Hartz, Lauren Duffy, Ryan Longstreth, Kate Curry, Christina Fogli, Noelle Hagan, and Gina Genesio. Apologies if I missed anyone!
SKS Forensics
Our SKS Forensics team presented to the SKS Aberdeen Club, our senior citizens from the parish a few weeks back. Once a month we send a group over to the luncheon to interact with the seniors. We had Irish Dance performances, our SKS Choral groups have sung, we have even performed science experiments over there! It’s a pleasure to see the joy our students bring to the seniors. Forensics also participated this past weekend at the Cardinal O’Hara Tournament. Sasha Reeder was awarded 1st place, with Kathleen Sisian placing 5th in prose. The duo of Chloe Steinman and Katie Whelan placed 4th in the same category.
Science Fair
The SKS Science Fair was held on April 19th in the gym. Students in the 4th, 6th and 8th grades proudly displayed their experiments in the gym on Thursday night and Friday during the day. The event was well attended and you can see some the great work done by our scientists in the pictures. The Science Fair promotes creativity, critical thinking, and organizational skills that all involve problem solving. These are important real life skills.
Archdiocesan Choir Performers
Elyse Terzian, Sophia Twohig, Kate Ryan and Ava Terribile represented our school at the Archdiocesan Music Festival last Tuesday night at the Kimmel Center. There were five hundred performers from Catholic elementary and high schools from the five county area. We are proud to have these girls represent SKS.
Home & School Speaker Series:
How to Stop Yelling at Your Kids!
Lisa Corcoran, a respected and well known speaker from the area in parenting expertise, spoke last week to about thirty parents on the above topic. She offered problem solving scenarios and there was a great dialogue with parents who were able to attend. It was great to see some dads there too!
Here is a summary of Lisa’s presentation. Please consider visiting her website: www.ParentingPlaybook.net where there are videos on parenting that can help all of us.
SKS High School Night
We received favorable feedback and thanks for High School Night here at SKS last Tuesday evening. Eleven high schools were here to showcase their prospective offerings to our families of the 6th and 7th grade. I spoke before the presentations about the high school admissions process.
GO Run and the SK5K
Thanks to Megan Hope and Jim Sharkey and many volunteer parents who are making Go Run a success. We have over ninety Go Runners out there getting ready for the SK5K! I am registered for that SK5K Walk/Run on Saturday May 15th. Are you? We are calling in weather connections to the Blessed Mother to guarantee 70 degrees and sunny. Thank you to Jess Di Lucia, Emily Feeney, and Colleen Fisher who have lead the way to organize this always a tremendous community event. You can register online for the event.
