SKS Volunteer Opportunities – Sign Ups will be available at the opening of school, we will provide a link for the committee you would like to join.

All families are encouraged to volunteer at school, here are some areas where your time and talents would be appreciated:

ADVANCEMENT COMMITTEES

This planning and action committee exists to ensure the
competiveness and long-term growth of our school and church community. Sub-Committees
include Finance, Spiritual Growth, Grants and Alumni Relations.
Timing: Year-Round
Approx. time commitment: As needed, depending on role.

ALLERGY AWARENESS WALK WITH THE PRINCIPAL

Help walk the kids over to the Parish Center in the morning and then accompany them during the Allergy Awareness Walk with the Principal!
We are having a speaker in the gym and then walking around the block several times.

ALUMNI COMMITTEE
Help us reconnect with our graduates. Help with our fall reunions and invite alumni to SKS
events throughout the year
Timing: Year Round
Approx. time commitment: A few meetings and some work from home

ART GOES TO SCHOOL
Learn a portfolio and teach in the classroom about a specific artist or painting.
Timing: Fall and Spring
Approx. time commitment: A few meetings in the fall and classroom presentations during one
week in spring.

BOOK FAIR
Assist the librarian with the set-up and sale of books to children and their families.
Timing: February
Approx. time commitment: Set-up, clean-up, 1-2 shifts

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA
Jumpstart your holiday spirit with this festive tradition. Get involved with the bake sale,
holiday games and more.
Timing: Early December
Approx. time commitment: A few meetings in Oct/Nov and day of event

FAMILY EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Help educate our community, both students and parents about relevant issues, such as
computer safety, health and wellness issues, bullying.
Timing: Year-Round
Approx. time commitment: A few meetings and some work from home.

FUNDRAISING COORDINATOR

A volunteer opportunity you can do from home! Coordinate the collection of fundraising
opportunities from local retailers for SKS. Promote  Target “Take
Charge of Education” Program and many more to earn “free” money for our school.
Timing: Year-Round
Approx. time commitment: Minimal

GARDEN CLUB
No green thumb required! Help clean out beds and plant bulbs and flowers.
Timing: Fall and Spring
Approx. time commitment: Minimal

GO RUN FITNESS PROGRAM

A fun, non-competitive running program designed to promote fitness and healthy lifestyle
choices. Volunteers needed to be group leaders, help with snack, traffic guards to help with
the walk to the middle school and non running course volunteers.
Timing: April and May
Approx. time commitment: Once a week during program

GRANTS COMMITTEE
Help SKS pursue grant opportunities to benefit our school.
Timing: Year Round
Approx. time commitment: A few meetings per year and some work from home

HOMEROOM PARENTS
Work as a liason between teachers and parents to delegate holiday parties, recognize teacher
birthdays and assist teacher when necessary.
Timing: Year-Round
Approx. time commitment: As needed

H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People in Emergencies)

HOPE is a group of concerned people organized through St. Katharine parish who are willing to give a little bit of time to help others within the area.
HOPE provides the following services:

  • Provide rides to doctor/dental appointments
  • Grocery shopping
  • Help run errands (post office, bank, pick up prescriptions, etc.)
  • Deliver meals

The time commitment is minimal!  There are 8 rotating groups of helpers.  You will be placed in one group, which means you will only be called once every 8 weeks!!  If you aren’t able to help that week, no big deal – we’ll just try you in another 8 weeks!

H.O.P.E. could really use your help!  Please consider joining!

LIBRARY AIDES
Assist school librarian with various library activities, including checking students’ books and
shelving returned books.
Timing: Year-Round
Approx. time commitment: Weekly, biweekly or monthly

MEDIA CENTER AIDE
Volunteers needed to assist during computer class.  Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
All volunteers will be contacted within a few weeks with a rotating schedule by Ms. Christina Elisio.

NEW FAMILY MENTOR PROGRAM
Contact new families to welcome them and address questions throughout the year.
Timing: Year-round, concentration in the fall
Approx. time commitment: Minimal, available as needed

PUBLICITY COMMITTEE
Like to take photos at your child’s events? Help with our quarterly newsletter, “The Spirit,”
and publicize school activities. No experience in PR necessary.
Timing: Year Round
Approx. time commitment: As needed

READING CIRCLE
Assist Mrs. D’Agostino and enjoy spending time with our emerging readers by working with
lower school students in a small, group setting reading age-appropriate novels together.
Grades First and Second participate
Timing: Year-Round
Approx. time commitment: 1 hour a week

SECRET SANTA SHOP
Help our students share the joy of giving! Create a Christmas shop for students to purchase
gifts for family and friends.
Timing: Nov/Dec
Approx. time commitment: 2-3 planning meetings and week of event

SK5K FUN RUN
Sign up to follow in the spring…
Help facilitate the Annual SKS Fun Run. Join current families, friends and alumni on a run
through Wayne to show our commitment to our school, church community, fitness and fun.
Timing: May
Approx. time commitment: Planning meetings and day of event

SKS SPIRIT DAY
Be a part of the competitive tradition. Facilitate games and activities during this annual
celebration.
Timing: May

SPIRITUALITY COMMITTEE
Help nurture the gift of faith in our community.
Timing: Year Round

SPRING CULTURAL ARTS NIGHT

Help create a night when SKS embraces and celebrates the Arts and showcases students’
talents.
Timing: April

SPRING FUNDRAISER – SKS FASHION SHOW/LADIES NIGHT OUT
Help with invitations, ads, decorating, gifts, food and beverage for this fun night out!
Timing: March
Approx. time commitment: 4-5 meetings and night of event

UNIFORM EXCHANGE
Coordinate the donations of gently used and outgrown uniforms and display before Home and
School meetings.
Timing: Year-Round
Approx. time commitment: 3-4 times a year
